Total Eclipse of the sun, Madras, OR NASA image
This has been a very powerful time. The manifestations with the environment alone is enough to unnerve people. Forests have been burning out of control all over the world, the biggest hurricanes ever experienced are hitting one after another and very large earthquakes have happened in Mexico catalyzing a volcanic eruption. Cities and towns are flooding, smoke has been so bad it is difficult to breathe, toxic chemicals are being released from refineries in the Gulf, buildings are falling, droughts persist and people are dying. There are scientific explanations for all of this and as a result we are pointing the finger at corporations, politicians, the 1% and a 15 year old boy with a firecracker. In the midst of this a stunning total eclipse happened, a death and rebirth of the light. Huge solar flares happened a week later resulting in amazing auroras.

'Flowers Grow in the Crack', 24"x24", Oil on Panel
I have been getting ready for a showing of my art work. Part of the readiness is the dreaded Artist Statement. I decided to be different with it this time. It feels perfect to start my blog with it. This is what I wrote: A THREAD OF TRUTH I have painted and drawn threads, The story of a life following threads, And weaving tapestries of love. A story of knotting up And unraveling Threads having been dropped, and Tapestries torn. Having quilted all of the parts of my life together I have let go of the quilt. I now follow a thread of truth and have set the spool down. Katherine 9/3/17 |
